Half way down/Half way to go!

Camp is in full motion! The girls have been here alittle over a week and I've taught charm/crafts everyday and participated in the other whereabouts of camp! I have a huge to-do list of things to do during the 2nd half of summer/before nursing school orientation on July 15th. It's pretty overwhelming at times but I think I have most taken care of. Last night was the carnival. I was in charge of face painting! My pieces of art included a zebra, a tiger, "I'm a Belieber" (gag me), "I <3 JB", leaves, etc. All in all it was so fun. But it did hit me, I feel so bad for the "tween" generation. Any huge fad that comes around, i.e. Jo Bros, Justin Beiber, etc. they all HAVE to go for it. And that becomes their life. I've heard very few of these girls NOT want to talk about the Beibs since my time has been here. It's just sad that that generation falls into fads so easily. Anywho, here's a few pictures from camp! (I mentioned in my last post that my "new" computer doesn't have a place for my camera card, so I must wait to upload my pics till I go home)

 Those of you unfamiliar with the ways of Waldemar, each girl draws a tribe (Tejas, Aztec, or Comanche) during her first night of her first year of long term camp, and remains in that tribe forever. The counselors do the same, since we are all Buzzards, our tribes are Screechers, Squakers, and Scratchers. This picture is my drawing my tribe-SCRATCHERS!!! On another note: I was really hoping to grow spiritually during the summer. it's easy to think- a few months of no school, plenty of time to build my relationship with God! But, working at camp is nonstop and so that isn't as easy as I expected. But, shelby started a bible study MWF, so as I read to come up with relatable lessons to speak to the campers about, I find that they're perfect lessons for myself too! So here's a few notes:

What does it mean to be a Christian?

-I think we all know someone who claims to be a Christian but continues to live a life that isn't godly. As Christians we should want to "pick up the cross daily" and live a life pleasing to God. One way to think of  a Christian lifestyle is "to live as Jesus would live and behave as Jesus would behave". Also, 1 John 2:6 says "whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked". I know I have always claimed to be a Christian but did not, until recently, live out that lifestyle. It's so important that we live a life as Jesus would. Just think, if you're trying to witness to someone else and they heard what you were saying but you contridicted it with your actions, what would they think?

Being a Woman!

I'm teaching Charm and a few girls brought up self image remarks so I decided to have a talk out of it. I rememberd a "note" on facebook talking about how God created Eve from Adam's rib. Cool, right? We can interperet this that we should serve as the rib; strong yet fragile, and to protect the heart. Also, as Captivating reminded me, women was God's last touch to his creations. And if you think about it, each day, God's works became more and more intricate and ended with WOMEN! I stole this from Captivating, "the whole, vast world is incomplete without me (women)!" I then had the girls make a list of 10 positive things about themselves.

God's Timing:

I spoke to the girl's about this topic, considering how much I struggle with this. As a planner, I like to plan out everything and I can't understand when it doesn't work out! So as I've written about before, Nursing School was definitely the case with this (among other things). I was reminded of the story in John 11, the death of Lazarus and how Jesus went but only after staying where he was for 2 days. My bible commentary illustrated this that "God's delays are not his denials". This is one of my favorite lessons so far, because it really hit home with my for nursing school! As I told the girls this, Shelby added to it that I truly do always get the back burner, but in time, things work out :)
