evynn claire | five months

How many months old? 5 months
Weight?   15 lb 14 oz
Length? 26 ¼ inches
Doctor check-up?  we wouldn’t have had seen this doctor this month except for our little bug which sent us to the doctor. All looked good, just a cold. Healthy growing girl over here!
Any teeth? Nope but still showing occasional signs of teething-drooling, wanting something in her mouth. Not a fan of the refrigerated teethers though, hah!
Sleep? Sleeping good. On most nights she sleeps from 9pm-6 or 7 am. On occasion she wakes up once throughout the night. These last few nights of her being sick have been rough, but that’s not the norm.
Feeding? We’re eating 4-5 6oz bottles a day and nursing at bedtime (when I work). When I’m home I let her nurse on demand. She never denies a meal!
Eating anything? Mommys milk!
Developmental milestones? Still rolling over all the time, rarely stays how we lay her down. She grabs for toys and plays with them. Does “push ups” and holds her upper body up off the ground. She is so close to crawling! She’ll lift up her booty and move her legs but puts her face down on the ground, therefore doesn’t move haha! She can move quite a distance by just pulling herself up and scooting or rolling over and over and over to get to her destination, haha! she'll go all over the place. She tries to wake sometimes when she sees other people wave at her. She is intrigued by us eating food and tries to grab everything. She is so busy and alert!
Favorite toy? She loves her extra saucer (except for one toy that always makes her cry, haah!) She loves her leap frog “violet” puppy that sings to her, loves teethers or anything she can hold in her hands.
Speech and language? She occasionally “talks” but not as much anymore. She laughs when we play peek a boo.  Her new thing when she is really happy and excited is to squeal at the highest pitch possible.
Loves? Nursing, playing, rolling over back and forth, walking around being held, and pushing her upper body up then back down to her belly and kick her legs. She’s really into her feet right now and is always pulling on her socks and toes! Loves rolling off of the blanket we have laid out with her toys.
Dislikes? When her food gets taken away, when she needs to burp, pacifiers, anything having to do with her nose-suction, wiping, etc.
Firsts: fever. Sad day(s). this mom was a total mess and texting anyone I knew for advice, haha! I got sick last week (every December I get sick for a whole week, it’s a nightmare) then got better then she got a fever and then congestion, cough, etc. then I got strep throat. The fun just keeps coming…
We love: how much this sweet girl is growing! When she was tiny I couldn’t fathom her growing up, but now I can’t even remember her being little. She’s so fun and doing something new everyday!

(^ not her best angle, ha )

this pout is pitiful but look at those sopping wet long eyelashes. sweet girl didn't like the car ride :(

^someone got from her toys all the over to the gift and pulled all the tissue paper out.

holiday happenings

December hasn't ever been the best month for Cody and I. Our first year of marriage I got h1n1 flu the week of Christmas, last year Cody had a kidney stone and I was so nauseas all the time, and this year once again I was sick this time with strep. We have managed to do a few holiday things, but still yet to see Santa.

First was my work cookie exchange party. I took 6 dozen cookies and came home with a huge variety and they were delicious! I made peanut butter cookies in a mini muffin tin then placed reese's cups in them after the baked, and the same with sugar cookie and hershey's kisses. yum.

We then had our Christmas parade downtown. The weather was great and it was a fun, small town parade. We had Evynn in her stroller and took baby ear covers to keep her from the loud sirens and she fell asleep. Yes!

Last Friday we had Codys staff Christmas party at cagle's steakhouse. Delicious.

then last Saturday Evynn and I wrapped presents and hung around the house then that evening we had plans to attend the national ranching heritage museum Christmas lighiting-it sounded so fun! A look back at history and a visit from Santa. We got there and the line was crazy long and not moving so I decided we should leave. Then we went to a church to see their live nativity set. We got in line and cars starting moving, then it started POURING and lightening. So, we decided to leave there also because who knew how long we would be in line. We ended our night at my work holiday party for snacks and games. It was a good night all in all but I'm still bummed I haven't had a picture of Evynn and Santa yet. sigh.

Last week I started to feel a sore throat coming on then the start of flu then I got over it while my little Evynn caught a bug herself :(. I was so excited for my parents and brother/sister in law to come visit this weekend and looked forward to going shopping and running around. But once they got here on Saturday I felt completely miserable. Once they got here I handed Evynn off and spent Saturday and Sunday resting. we did do a pre-Christmas with my brother and sister-in-law since we'll miss each other at home.

(^^ Target had these prank boxes to wrap gifts in. I gave my brother his gift in a box for "earwax candle kit" haha)

Stephanie made evynn an adorable red and black dress. I'm so excited for her to wear it next year!

(^push ups with grandpa)

Evynn got lots of lovin' which was great since I barely even held her this weekend. It was great having my parents here so I could recover while Cody wasn't in charge of two needy girls ;) Sometimes you just need your parents.. even when you're a parent yourself.

four month favorites

okay we're really 1 week away from being 5 months old (i cannot believe it!) so really this is a 3/4/5 month favorite post, but favorites nonetheless.

sophie the giraffe evynn is little unsure of her purpose but will suck on or chew on her to distract her from boredom or the occasional gum pain. i questioned if we were teething a few weeks ago after some crazy clinginess, drooling everywhere, and desire to put anything and everything in her mouth, but that has seemed to stop. PTL. Sophie was very loyal in that short stint though!

drool scarves. call them what you want but I think they're great for the occasional times of extreme drollness (see above) and a cute accessory to add a scarf to an outfit. baby after my own heart ;)

fisher price baby apps/ netflix app I swore i wouldn't be this mom and have already given in to handing the baby the phone. Not really, but on long road trips which we made 3 weeks in a row (!!) both of these apps came in handy when evynn was loosing her cool. On Netflix we watched Veggietales and Fisher Price has some great apps that teach about numbers, colors, shapes, and animals.

kitty kat rattles call me a crazy cat lady or whatever but I was sold on these things before Evynn entered the world. They're precious and the perfect size rattle for her tiny hands. I always keep one of these in our diaper bag.

extra saucer this was Ev's Christmas gift from pop pop and mimi ;) and i know this mom and dad love it! we can put evynn in it while we cook dinner/clean/ or do chores around the house. She plays and stays content while working on her standing skills. Because she's pretty tall for her age we've already had to increase the height once! She occasionally gets mad when the toys don't do what she wants, it's hilarious. we love this!

Carter's sleep n' play we love these for pajamas, especially the zipper version. Since ev started rolling back to belly at 3 months we had to stop swaddling and now let her sleep in these. And sure enough, she rolls over all night long. She stays nice and warm in these and doesn't kick off her socks ;)

this little girl has such a personality these days! she is so sweet and cuddly but definitely a diva at times. She does "push-ups" as we call them ;) usually before bed which we allow so she makes herself tired, haha. She holds herself up so good and kicks her legs. If she takes off crawling soon I won't be surprised but I'll also cry, ha! We are not ready for that!
